Yarnalong: Rocquaine and Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society

Happy Wednesday friends!

Reading:  I’ve missed Yarnalong the past few weeks, but I have been reading!  I finished The Shepherd’s Life, and I highly recommend it! I got more and more engrossed as I kept reading.  Most recently, I’ve been reading the Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society, which I’ve just about finished.  It was highly recommended to me by a very dear friend (who also gave me a copy!), and I’m so glad she suggested it!  It’s an epistolary novel, which is a genre I really enjoy — it always makes me want to write more letters myself!  It’s set just following World War II, as a London writer begins to learn about the German occupation of Guernsey during the war — something I myself knew nothing about. It’s a book written by people who love books, and that really shines through.  And it’s a quick read!  If you like historical fiction and strong female main characters, I’d definitely suggest giving it a go.

Knitting: Rocquaine by Christina Danaee, from the most recent Pom Pom issue.  So far, so good on this one.  The start of the sweater is very simple … just a long stretch of stockinette in the round!  I’ve made some progress since I snapped this photo, and I’ve almost finished the stockinette portion.  I’m so excited to begin the guernsey portion of the sweater (I just realized that I’m working on a guernsey sweater while reading about Guernsey — double Guernsey week!).  I’m still really enjoying working with my Rose Lane Farm yarn … I think this sweater is going to keep me really warm this winter!  I’ve joined in the Arnall-Culliford Knitwear Picture This KAL over on their Ravelry group for this project.  It’s a really fun knitalong. You can work on any project, as long as you share a picture that inspired it …. my inspiration, of course, is the sheep at Rose Lane Farm!

In other news: I’m pretty much fully moved into the new place.  My office, the last refuge of unpacked boxed, got some serious attention this weekend.  My desk (pictured above) is clear, and I’ve laid out my little shells and bits of wood collected this summer in New Zealand.  I’m still getting used to life in Philadelphia, but I’m starting to settle in a bit.  Hoorah!
